Two of our wines got featured in the recent 2011 edition of The Wine Trials. Naturally, we are ecstatic to announce that our $15 Eder Cosecha and Mania Verdejo/Viura "beat $50+ bottles in this year's rigorous brown-bag blind tasting"
What makes The Wine Trials specially remarkable, is that these <$15 bottles are tasted alongside wines costing sometimes 10 times as much. However, the 13 member tasting and editorial team had no idea what they were tasting during the blind (brown bag) tasting.
As noted in the book's review, "You won’t find esoteric words like 'elderflower' or 'pencil lead' in The Wine Trials 2011. The book is written in an unpretentious, conversational style that’s just as accessible to everyday wine drinkers as it is to wine experts. Each review includes the panel’s blind tasting notes, discusses each wine’s provenance and style, and even includes a cheeky discussion of the bottle and label design."
Eder Cosecha 2009 - D.O.C. Rioja:
Overview Tempranillo is to Spain what Sangiovese or Nebbiolo are to Italy: famous national grape varieties capable of producing earthy, sophisticated, age-worthy wines. Tempranillo forms the core of the wonderful wines of Rioja, as well as those of Ribera del Duero. But unlike those wines, which are often aged for many years before being released to the public, this junior Rioja is young and fresh. So if you’ve ever wondered what that Rioja might have tasted like soon after it first fermented, this should give you a clue. Read more
Mania Verdejo/Viura 2009 - D.O. Rueda:
Overview This blend of two Spanish light white grapes (Viura and Verdejo) is crisp, fruity, and extremely likeable. It may not bowl you over with complex aromas or intense flavors, but it’s fresh and will go equally well with a hot day or a simple fish course. Anyone who would turn their noses up at a wine like this clearly hasn’t spent time with a chilled bottle on a summer afternoon. Read more
